More Montalban Quintet airplay this week. Big thanks to Halloran for the support! He played Abajo del Mar on his Sunday show. Awesome opossum.
Official Release of “Rolling in the Deep” – Free Download of the New Track
Hey there. We posted the “Rolling in the Deep” video a few weeks back and due to requests we are making the song available as a free download. It features the fantastic Julie Kitterman on vocals. Grab it here:

Also, if you missed the video, here it is. Young Zoe, age 5, makes her acting debut. Pretty classic. Enjoy!
More Airplay from Tim Pyles and FM 94.9
Our song “Abajo del Mar” was played again tonight on Tim Pyles’ show the Local 94.9. The showed featured the Livewire crew who are about to celebrate their 20th Anniversary! Congrats to the Livewire family. They’ve definitely made a home for local bands and music fans over the past 20 years. Their anniversary party is sold out but should be a rocking affair for those who managed to get tickets early. No Knife (Chris Prescott band of past years) and the mighty aMiniature are playing the festivities.
Big show coming up…
We’ve been asked to open up for the mighty Greyboy Allstars this next week. Saturday, September 29th is the date and the show is at the Belly Uo Tavern. We play around 8:30 so come early. We are really looking forward to the show as I have caught many Greyboy Allstars show over the years and it’s truly a great performance. Good times.
Velo Hangar Party
We just played a “July Birthdays” party at the Velo Hangar in Solana Beach. Man o Man! This is a cool spot. Huge thanks to Gordon, Laurel and Ben for hosting such a fun event. Montalban Quintet played 2 sets and even fit in a brand new (unfinished) song since people were so warmed up.
We are looking forward to our show at the Belly Up tomorrow night with friends Privet and Years Around the Sun. Should be a fun one. We are happy to finally be playing in North County! Hooray!
New Video – Flamenco Lake
So, I think I’ve gone a little batty and made yet another video for the Montalban Quintet. I can’t seem to stop making these things. 🙂
Here’s a simple video for “Flamenco Lake” shot in 15 minutes at La Jolla’s Birch Aquarium. Keep it simple, right?
Enjoy!
Post Tin Can Show Review
Last week’s show was a good one! We opened the evening to a great audience and played a very low-key, quiet set. Thanks to Justin at the Tin Can for being patient with getting our sound dialed in. Often times 7 people barging on stage can be intimidating for sound engineers. Our set was followed by Ezza Rose from Portland Oregon. What an awesome surprise. They ruled and played a delicate set that commanded the attention of the whole bar. Even a low speaking voice was above the ultra-quiet music the 4 band members played. Great stuff. Beata Bermuda rounded up the evening with a violin trio from Sweden that played a fresh take on Swedish folk songs. A real pleasure to check it out.
MQ’s version of Rolling in the Deep played on FM94.9
So our new song reared it’s ugly head last night on Tim Pyles’ radio show, the Local 94/9.
Thanks for the support! It was a fun one to record and the video can be seen on our Video page.
Woo hoo!
Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” – Montalban Style!
Here’s the new Montalban Quintet video. Very disturbing to say the least. Young Zoe delivers an Oscar-worthy performance with this one. Watch ’till the chilling conclusion…
Poetic Memory
I was recently asked by Owl and Bear music blog to write a list for their Poetic Memory series. I chose to compile 10 YouTube videos of bands that were personally influential in crafting the Montalban Quintet sound and musical direction. This article rolls in a nice promo for our upcoming Soda Bar show. It’s a good read. Check it out!
